New Ryan Adams

New studio album this November. I'm constantly amazed at how prolific this guy is. I find his albums tend to be hit & miss as a result, but I always look forward to hearing new material from him nonetheless. I loved his 2014 self-titled disc, and last year's Taylor Swift covers album was pretty great as well.

I always like his press -- a "AC/DC and Bruce Hornsby". I get the impression he says some absurd things for the kick of seeing it printed. I would not mind him taking a pause on new material and going back and doing a proper release on some material only out there on bootleg.

He was also really cool about allowing live recording and access to SBDs, so there are some amazing matrix AUD/SBD boots around from the Cardinal tours.

While a couple songs on the Swift cover album were ok, even he couldn't elevate their overall blandness. I listened through it all in one go and they all started sounding the same. The few hits are catchy, but other than that I was disappointed

The November 4th release date has come and gone without word of an album. Anyone know what's going on with this one?

Apparently it's been pushed to 2017.

His rate of producing albums has slowed down significantly over the past 5 years. This guy was nothing sort of prolific early in his career. I'm hoping that there is a direct relationship between album quality and the length of time I've had to wait for this one!

Agreed. I always admired how prolific he was, but as I mentioned above, his albums have often been hit or miss in terms of quality for me. That being said, I was a big fan of both of his 2014 albums, and I enjoyed most of the 7" singles he released throughout 2014/'15 as well.

Agree with the part about his press and the live shows. Will be pre-ordering and with the hope he comes through Toronto on this tour.

I think the reduced frequency of RA albums is because he is producing albums now. He's often tweeting pics/videos etc from the studio

Just downloaded his album and really happy with this one! Can anyone write a better utterly devastating breakup song? The Without You one off the new album is beautiful. Btw got a ticket in the presale by guessing the password. Prisoner lol

Excellent! Looking forward to hearing these. As for Prisoner, it took a lot of listens for the songs to taken on individual identities for me. I like the album now but it wasn't instantaneous and it took a while for me to say that. Standouts for me are Breakdown, Anything I Say to you Now, and Do You Still Love Me? (love the 80's guitar on that one!). Overall I think I prefer his 2014 self-titled album, but it's close.

I've had a chance to listen to the Prisoner B-side album three times now. With a nod to Stereogum's "Premature Evaluation" as three listens isn't much to form an opinion on, I don't think there is much, if any, drop-off in quality from the "A-side" album. I could easily find 5 tunes on the B-side album to swap out for 5 on the original.

Agreed. Some fantastic stuff on there for sure.

In other Adams news, here's a great performance of "Outbound Train" from Colbert last night. Easily one of my favorite songs on Prisoner.
