Hey all!
Just went to the REM half of this bill last night and I've got to say it was amazing!! They played tons of hits (greatest hits release in a few weeks I guess) and some new songs (for the last release). It was my first REM show and it didn't disappoint. The venue was really empty, about 7,000 fans altogether for a place that holds 20,000 but it didn't matter everyone was having a good time. The weather was really nice and the sound was really good too.
The greatest part however came near the end when the band came back for their encore and during the last two songs set-up another mike beside Michael Stipes for a 'guest' vocalist.....none other than Radioheads Thom Yorke!!! It had been rumored that the boys from RH were hanging around the venue and had been spotted getting some food at the concessions earlier. He sang vocals (duet with MS) for E-bow The Letter and End of the World as We Know it, in which Thom completely lost it, was jumping, dancing, being a maniac on stage for the whole thing....even took over palying Peter Buck's guitar for a bit. It was the happiest and most energetic I've ever seen Thom at a show, ususally with Radiohead he's reserved and a little more sullen (given the music I guess it's to be expected) but even when he rocks out in RH shows its been nothing like it was last night!! He and MS were really chummy and were hugging each other and doing what can only be described as 'windmills' with TY behind MS and making it look like MS had another set of arms. All put....simply amazing!!
If anyone else was there I hope you enjoyed the show!!

btw Michael Stipe said he'd be at the RH show tonight...another duet?? Here's hoping!!! And apparently more people in Van City like RH than REM cause there's about 19000 tix sold for the RH show!!
