Which Hip song are you?
#1

Hey Everyone,

I just created a computer program that can predict with 97.2% accuracy, what Tragically Hip song best suits your personality.

By simply posting your date of birth ( day, month and year) I can enter it into the program and respond with your Hip song and a brief explanation. I will try to respond as quickly as possible and post your song just below this message.

If you don't feel comfortable posting your own birth date, you can use the date of a family member or friend. It works for all people, Hip fans or not.

Responses

tywebb: Your song is Morning Moon. As a cancer you are ruled by the moon. Your element is water which is why "lake" is repeated twice in the first verse. You are also very sensitive or in other words " it doesn't take too much to upset you." I also see Labour Day having some significance with you and the Hip.

sean.bonner: Your song is The Luxury. Your symbol is the Lion and your element is fire. Both are captured in the first verse; "Zoo lion sobers up and starts to scream and shout. A little dose of home-fire got him all smoothed out. You are passionate in all you do and do everything in grand fashion but can often be left feeling exhausted and unfulfilled. Thus you can't always enjoy The Luxury.

tragically.pat: Your song is Boots Or Hearts. As a Gemini, your sign is the twins relating to the line "fingers and toes, fingers and toes, forty things we share." Your element is air as in "we got some air to clear." The wolf is your defining animal which is seen to be a nurturing force like "babies raised by wolves."

thebends: Your song is Sherpa. As an Aries, your element is fire and your ruling planet is Mars. You were born in the year of the rabbit which means you can be very sexual. All these aspects can be captured in the first verse of Sherpa. "Me and the vivid girl in our hammock to the stars. Staring into the fire before TV, the remote-control's on Mars."

rdownen: Your song is Save The Planet. Both your Zodiac and Chinese elements are water. Save The Planet follows this trend by using water twice in the same line. "If the bathwater's clear and my ear's underwater". Black is a colour that is owned by Scorpio and when you put it against your birthstone of yellow, it makes sense that Phantom Power is the album in which your song resides.

hipnosis: Your song is Goodnight Josephine. As the only zodiac sign represented by a female, it makes sense that your song is one of only 3 Hip songs named after a female. Virgo colours are earthy colours such as dark brown, green and blue. The browns are represented on the IBE album cover while the green and blue colours are mentioned in the line "a blue-green northern light."

Tthip: Your song is On The Verge. Your zodiac sign is the goat and your elements are earth and wood. Your song directly references The Goat as well as The Satyrs which in Greek mythology are deities of the woods and mountains, half human half goat. Your birthstone is a deep red similar to that of the Road Apples cover. Capricorn is the 10th of 12 astrological signs and On The Verge is the 10th of 12 songs on Road Apples.

VioletLite: Your song is Pigeon Camera. As a Gemini your element is air so it makes sense that you would be represented by a bird. Your symbol is The Twins which indicates "two". Your song has two lines that are repeated twice. "And after all that training" as well as "And that's my sister". This is a wink to the Gemini. You are also considered attractive but since Gemini is a masculine sign, the song uses the term handsome.

NegPhil: Your song is Fly. The first two lines in the song speak to the year you were born. Aquarius can be a very confusing sign. Your symbol is a water carrier which explains the references to the ocean however your element is air and thus Fly makes for an appropriate choice.

Hammer: Your song is Lionized. Being a Leo, this song captures your symbol as well as being the 6th song on the album it matches your astrological order. Leo's are known for there strength which is why the song uses the word "strong" in the last line.

mojo_mattv: Your song is New Orleans Is Sinking. Being a Pisces you are drawn to water songs however your Chinese element is Fire. NOIS does a perfect job of mixing both these elements. Your birthstone is aquamarine which continues the water theme and the colour of this gem is "pale blue", two words that are actually used in the song. Combine the fact that your birthday is on the 3rd month, 2nd day and NOIS is the 3rd song of the 2nd album.

ShaneKroeker: Your song is Grace,Too. Your birthday falls on the very last day of the Aries cycle with puts you in conflict with the strong, aggressive Taurus (Bull) cycle. This is captured perfectly in the verse "When the appearance of conflict, meets the appearance of force." Aries is the first sign in the astrological calendar and represents great strength so it makes sense your songs is one of The Hip's strongest openers. Both Aries and Taurus or know for their will and determination and.......well you know the rest.

direwolf74: Your song is Stay. As a Libra (Scales) you are all about balance and harmony. You only have to look to the final verse of Stay to understand the importance "balance" plays in that song. "Your a lover and a fighter" is also typical for a Libra who is constantly trying to harmonize all emotions. Your birthstone is opal which is traditionally known for it's multitude of colours not unlike the album cover for Music @ Work.

SoylentGreg: Your song is Opiated. As an Aquarius your element is air and you enjoy being around people and feeding off their energy. The line "Addicted to approval, addicted to the air" certainly applies to you. Your sign is the 11th in the astrological calendar and Opiated is the 11th song on the album. Your birthstone is the red garnet and since your symbol is a water bearer, you are considered a healer. These aspects are captured in the line "The medicine man started seeing red". The reference to St.Peter and the snake could mean you are fairly religious.

IndieSmash: Your song is Courage. You are a pure Aries which means you are fearless and often seen as a hero. Courage is your perfect theme song. Aries is the 1st symbol of the zodiac calendar and you were born in the 4th month. Courage is the 1st song from The Hip's 4th album. The reference of "motel" in the song may indicate that you frequently travel to fulfill your passion.

TheTravellingMan: Your song is All Canadian Surf Club. As a Cancer your element is water which is referenced several times using the terms beach, waves and surf. Your symbol is the Crab and nothing is more important to you than family and friends. Both these aspects are captured in the line "Walk across the sand with another friend." It not a coincidence you were born just after this album came out. Your year (88) directs you to the 8th song on the album and a desire to be close to where it all began.

FilipH: Your song is Vapour Trails. You were born on the last day of the Libra cycle before it moves to Scorpio. This creates quite a struggle as your sign is all about balance so you do your best to merge the 2 houses. Libra is the 7th sign and Scorpio is the 8th sign in the zodiac so you balance things by going to the 7th Hip album and the 8th song. Libra is an air element while Scorpio is a water element. No song better combines these 2 elements than Vapour Trails. The term is usually reserved for jets and there are several references about "flying over" and "flying home" however this is balanced with water terms like "rainpools","wet shoes" and "sprinklers hose".

Remi_Gaudet21: Your song is Inevitability Of Death. Being a Gemini born in May instead of June, you have a special connection with the colour green. It 's not only your strong zodiac colour but also your birthstone colour. Being born the 5th month, you only need to look the the 5th album and the song with the line "Terry's gift is forever green." Many believe this line to be about Terry Fox which also connects you with this song. You were born on the 28th of May, Terry was born on the 28th of July and died on the 28th of June. Because your symbol is the Twins, you are said to have a special bonding quality or ability to connect. Hence the line "I get a sense of connectedness".

downie_24: Your song is As Makeshift As We Are. As a Capricorn you sign is often considered the Goat but more specifically it is the Sea-Goat. Your element is earth and your year is the Monkey. All this information draws us to an album appropriately named In Between Evolution. You are the 10th zodiac sign which continues to pull you to the 10th album IBE. Your Chinese element is metal which is mentioned in the song along with "lead". You make a great leader but can be confrontational which explains the references like "war","tribe" and "combat"

Smokey: Your song is Fireworks. Being born in 72 gives you a special connection to the song. Your element is water but your season is winter which draws you to any song about ice. As a Pisces you enjoy your "solitude" and although you sometimes lack "ambition", when you set your mind to something you can accomplish anything. Oh, and do you know who else is a Pisces? That's right, Bobby Orr.

sherpa: Your song is Titanic Terrarium. As a Scorpio your zodiac element is water however your year of birth indicates a metal element. No other Hip song combines these 2 elements better than Titanic Terrarium. This creates a strong pull towards this song easily making it one of your favourites not just on the album but from their entire collection. As a Scorpio, you are known to have calm, controlled exteriors but under the surface you are intense, passionate and determined. The "submarine" is a good metaphor for your personality. Scorpios are also known for their "resourcefulness"

loxahatchee: Your song is Trickle Down. As a pure Leo you are drawn to any strong symbols from your zodiac sign. Not only does the song mention "Lion" but it also uses the terms "king" and "crown". Being born on the 2nd also gives you a special connection to the Hip's 2nd album. This song reminds you to stick to your strong principles and remain true to your dominant instincts. Remember, if you "cut your teeth" you "lose your meat".

tootragic: Your song is The Lonely End Of The Rink. Aquarius is the 11th sign of the Zodiac and being born on the 2nd day of the 2nd month, you are naturally drawn to the 2nd song on the 11th album. "Holding your fist in the air is a direct reference to your zodiac element. Based on the Chinese calendar, your element is water and your season is winter. This plays perfectly with song and it's references to "frozen lake" and "snowy tomb". You are very perceptive and rarely get beaten by people's "fakes" or "dekes".

Cookie.factory_West.Wind: Your song is Cordelia. Taurus is regarded as a feminine sign and thus the connection to the female name. Your symbol is the bull which is referenced in the line "The bull can't decide what it is he really hates." Your zodiac element is earth and your Chinese element metal. There is a direct reference to the metal "tin" but you also have to recognize earth bound forms of transportation like "car" and "train". One other connection to this song, another fellow Taurus, William Shakespeare.

Treakin: Your song is Fire In The Hole. Aries is identified by the Ram which is a symbol of strength, power and determination. The line "There's a power beyond control" is very accurate for an Aries. Your zodiac element is Fire which connects you directly with this song. Your Chinese element is water and your season winter which explains both the lines "The nights are getting cold" and "As cold as water through the roof".

Chris Tanz: Your song is Three Pistols. As a Gemini, yours is the 3rd sign in the zodiac calendar. You have a strong connection with the number 3 which is why you are drawn to the 3rd Hip album and the song with 3 in the title. Your Chinese element is wood which seems to have some connections with this song including the line "His bride of the northern woods."

robertgoulet: Your song is Bobcaygeon. Libra is the 7th sign of the zodiac and thus you are naturally drawn to the 7th Hip album. Your zodiac element is air so a song about stars and constellations is a perfect fit. You were also born in the 9th month so you connect with all the "9" references in the song. Being born in 78, your Chinese symbol is the Horse. This works well with the line "riding on horseback". The fact that you are riding the horse states that you stand high above others. This could mean either morally or physically.

gratts99: Your song is Vaccination Scar. You birthday is on the final day of the Scorpio cycle before moving into Sagittarius. This means you are in transition from the water element of Scorpio to a fire element which is actually your Chinese element. This is captured beautifully in the line "Swimming on a bit stop you're treading water as the sun assimilated the words For lighthouse fire burning down to embers' end." The ruling planet for Scorpio is Mars which is referenced in the song and your birth month being Nov. makes the 11th album a good choice for you.

thedarkcanuck: Your song is Springtime In Vienna. Virgo is the 6th sign on the Zodiac calendar and being born on the 6th, you look to the 6th album for inspiration. The song goes with your Chinese season with is Spring and your birthstone colour is blue which is mentioned in the line "The blues are still required." Virgos are know for their communication skills which is tied into the song with the terms "screaming" and "whispers".

silverjet27: Your song is Flamenco. As an Aquarius your zodiac element is air but being born in the year of the Ox makes your Chinese element water. These 2 elements come together perfectly in the line "turn breezes into rivulets". The line "Flamenco- sweep the air" really screams to you. Keeping with the Ox (bull) theme and knowing your birthstone is red, the line "walk like a matador" takes on even more significance. The words "teach" and New York" may also have some significant meaning to you.

chives:Your song is Little Bones. Aries starts the zodiac calendar which is signified in the line "It's the start of another new year." Being born on the 3rd month under this 1st sign, you look to the Hip's 3rd album and their 1st song. The line "a buck and a half for a year" again references the zodiac calendar but also mentions your Aries symbol the Ram, also known as a buck. Lastly, the mention of "Kennedy" might have some significance since you and JFK were both born on the 29th day.

wendel: Your song is Escape Is At Hand For The Travellin' Man. Libra is the 7th sign of the zodiac and with a 7 in your day and year of birth, you have a special pull to the Hip's 7th album. Escape includes many numbers in it's lyrics but ultimately ends with "7th". Your element is air so the "pigeon" also plays some significance.

Tarokun: Your song is Summer's Killing Us. Capricorn is the 10th sign in the zodiac and draws you to the 10th Hip album. Born in 79, your Chinese season is Summer which makes this a perfect song for you. The fact that it repeats the phrase "exists in it's praises" seems to indicate that you look to others for adulation or applause much like an entertainer or athlete. The line "Canada lost" may indicate that you represent the country in some manner.

Sorry for the delay. Slight "hiccup" in the program.

VioliteLite_2: Your song is The Heart Of The Melt. As a Pisces, we look to water references and this song has a bridge that includes the words "outswim" and "dorsal fin". Being born on the 22nd day of the 2nd month, the number two has great significance. This is the only Hip song to end with the word "two". One line in the song says "I do my hungover best". This has some significance since your birthstone is Amethyst. The word Amethyst is derived from the Greek word "amethystos" which means "remedy against drunkenness"

Daryl24: Your song is Eldorado. Yours is the 12th sign of the zodiac calendar and therefore you are attracted to many of the Hip's 12th songs like Gems and Penguin, however Eldorado has a special connection. You were born in the year of the Rabbit and your sign is the Fish. Eldorado repeats the words "drinking" and "loving" many times throughout the song. We are all familiar with the term "drinks like a fish" and you know what Rabbits are known for.

Smokey_wife: Your song is Sherpa. As an Aries, your Zodiac element is fire and your ruling planet is Mars. Both are captured in the first verse and connect you immediately with the song. You were born in the year of the Rabbit which relates the the line "flight or flee" which is an inborn survival response that makes rabbits so jumpy. The terms "poetic" and "write it down" may indicate a talent for the written word.

greenscor: Your song is Twist My Arm. Your were born in the year of the Ox which is referenced by the line "Throw the calf(baby ox) or he'll throw you." Your birthstone is pearl which is mentioned in the verse "Thirsty as a cultured pearl." You were born on the 25th of June with is the same day and month that "Jacques Cousteau" died.

50bones420: Your song is Yer Not The Ocean. Cancer is considered a feminine sign of the Zodiac so it's not unusual that a woman's name (Britney) is mentioned in the song. Your element is water which is actually mentioned in the song " a wall of water". It is the fact that both "ocean" and "lake" are used in the song that's most important. Your sign is the Crab which is a crustacean that can be found in both oceans and lakes. There are also "shore" and "rock" crabs which are words that also get mentioned in the song.

apeman: Your song is Fireworks. As a Libra your element is air and your Chinese element is fire. This combination automatically draws you to this song but it is the year of birth that seals the deal. You were born in 77 and Libra is the 7th sign in the zodiac calendar so you instantly gravitate to the 7th song on the 7th Hip album.

loxahatchee_gf: Your song is Fight. Born on the 3rd month in the year of the Horse, it makes perfect sense that your song would come from the 3rd Hip album which happens to have a Horse on the cover. Your zodiac symbol is the fish and is referenced in the line "taking fish off hooks". There is also a link between the line "smell our pillows burn" and the fact that your Chinese element is Fire.

tootragic_Pt2: Your song is Wheat Kings. Your 2 elements of Fire and Metal blend well to match the reference "Zippo lighter". As a Sagattarius, you are a always seeking knowledge and a higher education which goes along with the references to "museum" and "high school". Your birthstone is "yellow" which is mentioned in the song. Your birthdate (Nov. 25th,1970) also has some significance with the David Milgaard case. Milgaard was sent to prison in 1970. The real killer was arrested on the 25th day and convicted in November.

thecompletist: Your song is Silver Jet. Your zodiac element is Air and your Chinese element is Metal. These elements come together beautifully for this song. Born in the year of the Dog, the reference to the " Wolves of Northumberland" has some significance when you consider the ancestral connection between the two animals. The tarot card for Aquarius is represented by a Star and many feel green is a lucky colour for your sign. The fact that "green star" is mentioned in the song helps solidify your connection.

Kleh: Your song is Lake Fever. As a Scorpio, your sign is 8th on the Zodiac calendar and therefore you are drawn to the Hip's 8th album. Your elements of Water and Wood are merged perfectly in this song. Scorpions are incredibly passionate, persistent, and intense. Combine this with the fact that you were born in the year of the Rabbit and the phrase "coital fury" takes on even more significance.

Jll: Your song is Everytime You Go. You were born under the 7th sign of the Zodiac and your song is 7th on th Up To Here album. Born in the year of the Snake, this fact is referenced in the line "And the big snake pit". The Air element keeps Libra on the move, always having changes of some sort surrounding them but they need the balance of a partnership in their life. This songs touches on all these aspects.

wilkydave: Your song is Giftshop. Born in 66 with a birthstone the colour red, you are naturally drawn to the Hip's 6th album with the red cover. Aquarius is considered a masculine sign and since you were born in the year of the Horse, the following verse speaks directly to you. "The pendulum swings, for the horse like a man".

Gibson: Your song is Put It Off. Born on the 6th day in the year of the dog, Trouble At The Henhouse is a significant album for you. You connect with many of the songs however since you were born in December, the 12th song on the album has a particular attraction. The phrase "passion to experiment" speaks to the Sagittarius nature but just the numerology alone tells me that Put It Off could be one of your favourite Hip songs in their catalogue.
