Sweet, I went to the Ottawa Bluesfest last year, and I had a blast! I plan on returning this year as well !

I heard there will be a Downie solo tour this summer instead.

Their sound guy and lighting guy both hinted that there wouldn't be any Hip shows for quite a while... Except maybe a couple summer gigs. Definitely no mention of a Hip tour.

But I have heard lots of talk about a Gord tour... and IIRC at least one of his solo bandmates confirmed it on her site.

As much as I love the Hip, and as cool as it is that the bluesfest venue is two blocks from my house...I'd *much* rather see a Gord solo show at Bluesfest than another Hip show. I've seen them three times at bluesfest, and none of them were anything better than okay. (By Hip standards anyway.) And the crowds are invariably awful.

Great source for this one, yet still barely a rumor:

When the band canceled their St. Paul, MN date due to illness, I called the promoter. I asked if there would be a makeup date, as the other show that was put off (Denver) listed their show as "postponed due to illness". The promoter here gave me an answer that the only makeup date that was talked about would be summer 2010 at the MN Zoo. Several years back (around the M@W era) they did a handful of sporadically scheduled shows - just two or three if I recall - and the MN Zoo's outdoor amphitheater was one of them.

Here's hoping that 2010 brings 'em on back for another!

I took it more as a way to deflect criticism from the cancelled show than a real possibility, but that didn't stop me from listing the Hip on their "Vote for your Dream 2010 Music in the Zoo Line-up!" page on Facebook. A few more votes couldn't hurt!

I voted I'd certainly like to see the Hip come back to make up for their cancelled show.
