I was able to communicate with Robbie this past week. He told me he is very excited about his solo project. He also said they are aiming for a late spring release if everything goes as planned. He mentioned he felt it was some of the best work he has done.

He also spoke of the next Tragically Hip CD. ( Not the Greatest Hits or the upcoming DVD). He said The Hip are in a writing mode and some of the songs are fleshing out to be "good rockers". No mention of a possible release date on that. I get the feeling it is a ways away with all The Hip related material coming out this year.

My contact with Robbie was cool and suprising!

I'm SO happy to hear this news. when I ran into Robbie at a local grocery store, a couple years back now, he made mention that he was doing some writing. I thought then how amzing that would be!! BRAVO to him for getting it going!!!

I was able to meet Bobby Baker outside of the Somerville theatre in Cambridge Masachusetts.

He is the nicest member of the band. I grew up in Bobcaygeon, and that night the picture was taken, I asked him why they picked "Bobcaygeon" out of all the small towns across Canada, the US and Europe. Bobby just said, "it was Gord's (Downie) idea. he had been there in the summer to visit friends, and he likes the place"

I asked Bobby if he had been there, and he jokingly said, "No, but I guess I should go soon if we're going to sing a song about it."


I'd totally be interested in hearing Bobby's solo stuff. I like the way he does his leads. they are more melodic and flowing rather then complicated and intricate.

I was at a 'Wil' show @ the Grad Club (Queen's) lastnight and Rob was there....along with about 12 other people total. I didn't want to bug him at all (not my style really) but during setbreak everyone in the room was talking and my friend and I told him how we were big fans. Mentioned that we were looking forward to the next show, whenever it may be.

Rob's reply: "It might just be here."
So I asked if "would it be the Hip or the fighter fighters?"
and Baker just laughed.

I figured that if he wanted to keep talking about the Hip, he would, so thats where the Hip conversation started/ended.

He is super cool and was nice to everyone there :thumb: ...Although I dont have any reason to think that other than my friend and I (and Wil) that anyone else was a hip fan.

I saw him in Ottawa (opening for Xavier Rudd) on Friday night and really enjoyed it, so I decided to hit the show Sunday night to hear more.

I will hook you up with a DVD of the show once it is all authored, as they let me tape it. The room was very dark, but other than that it should be good.
The only downside is that the sound guy would not let me have a board feed

I did the review in today's Queen's Journal of the show. I had to leave early to meet my deadline (and my girlfriend -- but that's another story) but I didn't think I was going to miss that much more. It's funny, my editor and I are really getting annoyed with QEA (the "main" concert promoter on campus). I think there were more of Baker's friends there than there were students. That being said, it was a good show which really caught me off guard. I'd love a copy of the DVD when you get the A-Okay (and to talk to you about taping the upcoming Weakerthans show)

Did Wil make mention of you during the first set?

Finally, the possibility of the Hip playing at the Grad Club would be a dream. It's probably very similar to TT The Bears in Cambridge or the Fez in New York. It's really just a living room, but a damn cool one.
