According to this guy anyway.. http://www.somethingawful.com/articles.php?a=3307

Sometimes this guy is spot on, other times he's a total jackass, depends who you like I guess. He takes a shot at the Hip on page 4, its not nice. Its pretty funny reading, though I don't agree with much of it, I mean the guy bashes Zeppelin for cripes sakes!!! Confusedhock:

They may be big fish over in Canada, but here in America we have real rock bands who aren't fronted by skinny, shrieking fruitcakes with bad clothes. So, you know, we don't have to settle for that kind of shit.

I've never been interested in that guy. Anyone can do what he does. In this case, take any band and write something vicious about it. If all else fails, you can just retreat into calling them pansies.

He'd be interesting if he could write, at least, but as it is he's just a geek masturbating on his keyboard for all to see.

Case in point: see how easy it was to post this? I didn't even have to think.

Boring.

You could have your own Maddox-type site. Well done.

Dr. Thorpe is great, he's the best writer on that site. He's not making fun of the bands, he's making fun of humourless fanboys. I though what he wrote about the Hip was hilarious.

Come on, don't any of you have stairs in your house?

maddox is pretty funny, I wish he would update his site more often. Again I might not agree with some of it, but its pretty funny to read.

Maddox is all satire. I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually believe 90% of the stuff he posts on his site. He is quite clever, though. My favourites are when he takes people's hatemail and posts their email addresses on his site so other fans send them hatemail. It's great.

I am protected, Bullet, but even if I wasn't i'd still find that high-larious. I LOL'ed at the Tragically Hip one.

As nuts as this guy can be, I have to agree with these:

Dave Thorpe Wrote:Atari Teenage Riot is the musical equivalent of putting a metal pot over your head and banging it with a big metal spoon whilst getting yelled at by your mom

Jack Johnson.
The man's songs are about as interesting as a mayonnaise sandwich

As for Fatboy Slim, I reserve a special kind of scorn for him. The fucking smug piece of shit makes some of the most hideous "music" that has ever fallen upon my unappreciative ears. Even in terms of shitty DJ crap, he makes the bottom of the barrel. He has no concept of structure. In every song he does he just lays out his hilariously amusing sample at the beginning, puts a beat to it, plays it over and over again, and layers more and more lame effects on it until you want to curse God for inventing sound. He also used to be in the Housemartins, the pitiful bastard.

I hated Fatboy Slim, and I don't care who likes him Jack Johnson makes me want to rip my ears off.

Actually, I don't find him all that funny. And I'm not just being a humourless fanboy; it ain't that he insulted my favourite band and I'm just in a snit. (And "satire," just for the record here, is a more sophisticated thing than what he's up to.)

Consider his take on John Coltrane, for example. Jazz fans are pretentious snobs who don't actually like jazz, but want people to think they do. Did anyone not see that one coming a mile off? Humour depends on surprise.

The DMB one approached funny, but funny saw him coming and ran away.

One that actually was funny, in a smirking kind of way, was Dredg.

That's exactly what I thought.

And really, the Hip got off pretty easy since it's much harder to attack substance.

Reading this, I just figured "here is a guy who tried really hard to come up with something funny (in a Don Rickles/David Spade kinda way) about every band he could think of."

I don't think it really reflects what he likes or doesn't like, nor is it supposed to. He was trying to be funny, and he succeeded in some spots, failed in others. Good for him.
