I bought 10,000 days after hearing people say such good things about it, and I am now wondering what is a good next album to go for.
Anyone out ther like to recommend something?

If you're going to start at the end, just go all the way backwards.
Lateralus is amazing, it actually got me through a very stressful trip through your country with my In Laws (never again and thank god for my Diskman)
Then, Aenima will kick your ass in a big way, followed finally by Opiate and their own New Orleans type defining song Sober.
And if they come anywhere near where you are, check them out, an amazing group of musicians..(I saw them in Manchester, highlight of said road trip)

See them live for sure. Its a huge spectacle. The drummer will make your head explode.

Although I kind of missed the ball on this thread, I'm going to contribute anyway because TOOL is such an influential band for me. All of the their albums are amazing - IMO they are by far the most important band in metal/hard rock over the past decade or so. Opiate and Undertow are "heavier" than any of the other albums, and I would venture to say that Undertow is perhaps their best album lyrically. Undertow is IMO severly under-rated as a complete album. Opiate is very raw, very heavy. Both of these albums came out when Paul D'Amour was still a member of the band, and their direction was much more on the heavy side at the time. As I understand it, Paul actually left because the band started to steer more towards their melodic ways, and then Justin joined. Anyway... Aenima would be their commerical pinnacle, and although others have said "Sober" is their NOIS, I would argue that Stinkfist would be their NOIS. Aenima was by far their most commercially successful album, and Stinkfist drove those sales. Lateralus and 10,000 days are probably the most similar of their albums - very heavy at times, very introspective at others. Salival is their live release which IMO is worth picking up. Make sure that you actually buy hard copies of the albums instead of downloading. Their cover art is something that is not to be missed.

I am one if the people who actually used Napster to check out albums before I bought the CD.
I have been burned a few times in the past with one hit wonders who have a crap rest of album.
I don't like CDRs on my cd rack, I am kind of anal like that (500+ cds, all listed alphabetically, and also on an excel file. I think I need to get out more...)

I do the same thing, checking them out before I buy, but when it comes to Tool, Lateralus and 10,000 Days should go on a special rack, next to Hipeponymous and the Stones Sticky Fingers vinyl thats just for the ones with the amazing cover art.
